Install Notes for Putty on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8

Putty Installation on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and Windows 10

To get around newer Windows security, Putty cannot be directly installed by clicking on the link. You must "Right-Click" the link and select "Save", "Save Target As...", or "Copy to Folder". Then, once downloaded, open the folder it was saved to and "Right-Click" the putty-063.exe (or putty-xp2.exe) program and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.

   Windows 7, 8, and 10 - Settings changes Recommended:

1. Control Panel -> System & Security -> Power Options -> "Change when the Computer Sleeps" - Change to "Never" - Since going into Sleep Mode causes login disconnection from the ProCom server.

2. (In the Same sceeen) Go to "Advanced Settings" -> Change the "Power buttons on lid" -> "Sleep button Action" to "Do Nothing" for the same reason as the previous setting change.

3. In newer Windows 7, 8, and 10 PC's, you may also have to un-check the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" so that Windows doesn't disconnect the ProCom login session. This can be found in Device Manager--> Network Adapters--> {select your network adapter}--> Power Management --> uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"... making sure to "OK" these settings to exit (not "x"ing out).
